Revised January 5, 2026
Since our founding by a professional driver in 1955, Anderson Trucking Service (ATS) has built its culture around clear expectations and an unwavering commitment to the safety of our drivers. That's why every ATS truck is equipped with a Lytx DriveCam safety system — an advanced dash-camera and AI-powered platform that helps drivers:
- Stay protected
- Improve performance
- Build a strong safety record
This article will get into the ins-and-outs of the Lytx camera system: what it is, how it works, and how you, as a driver, can benefit from it, so let's get rolling.
Key Points to Consider with the Lytx Camera System
- Lytx combines AI and machine vision to catch risky driving events before they become accidents
- Its unique, preemptive approach helps to save you from costly legal issues and hits to your driving record
- Video data and driver privacy are strictly protected, and only safety events are reviewed
- The goal isn't punishment. It's prevention and driver support
- There is a 60-day grace period for all new ATS drivers
Some Quick Lytx FAQs
Is the Lytx camera recording all the time?
No. Lytx records only brief video clips tied to specific safety events, not continuous footage.
Who can see Lytx video clips?
Access is limited to authorized ATS safety professionals and, when appropriate, the driver involved.
Will the camera drain my truck's battery?
No. Lytx is installed using fuse-protected connections and tested to ensure it doesn't interfere with your truck's electrical system or battery performance.
How does Lytx help me as a driver?
By providing clear, objective video during incidents, supporting fair coaching, and helping improve safety habits that can protect you and your record.
Will Lytx affect my pay, miles or job security?
No, that is not its purpose. Lytx is a coaching tool, designed to help truck drivers maintain a strong safety record and succeed long-term. Many clips are used for positive feedback, not discipline.

What is the Lytx Camera System, and How Does it Work?
The Lytx DriveCam is a small, forward-facing camera which uses smart sensors to capture driving conditions. When it detects a potential risk, such as:
- Driving too close to the vehicle in front of you
- Drifting within the lane
- Hard braking
it automatically records a short video clip capturing the moments before and after the perceived event. These clips are then securely uploaded to the Lytx Cloud platform, where the ATS safety team reviews them to support driver coaching and continuous improvement. That's what it's all about: a drive to always be better. It's what's made ATS a leader in the trucking industry and a top choice among drivers for more than 70 years.
Again, it's not about punishment. It's about prevention and, most importantly, keeping everybody safe. With the Lytx DriveCam, you can catch small mistakes and potential hazards in real time, before they lead to big problems, helping you improve your driving habits, avoid legal issues, and protect your Compliance, Safety, and Accountability (CSA) score. All good things made to serve you.
Only short, safety-related video clips are retained and reviewed, and no live, inward-facing cameras are used in ATS trucks.
How Is the Lytx Camera Installed, Powered, and Supported at ATS?
At ATS, the Lytx camera system is installed with one goal in mind: to support drivers. Every system is professionally installed by Lytx-certified technicians to ensure it works reliably, safely, and with minimal impact on your truck or daily routine. After all, it's meant to be an advantage, not a hindrance. The installation process is taken care of for you upon Day One, and includes:
- Registering the camera to the truck's VIN
- Connecting power safely through fuse-protected ignition and constant-power circuits
- Grounding and voltage checks to protect the truck's electrical system
- Camera setup and testing using the Lytx Installation App
- Secure mounting designed to reduce vibration and heat exposure
We just ask that our drivers take the following checks to keep things working smoothly:
- Wipe/clean the camera lens as part of your routine inspections
- Ensure cables are secure
- Let the ATS safety team know if you see a "device offline" or "no recording" alert
Our safety team is available for any other Lytx-related questions or concerns as well, and additional support is also provided through the Lytx app. Whatever you need, we've got you covered.
Why Does ATS Use Lytx?
We like to think we set the trends here at ATS, not follow them, and keeping on the cutting edge of the latest and greatest technologies has kept drivers coming back for over seven decades. At the end of the day, our drivers are the heart of everything we do. It's why we invest in the best equipment and support to help them:
- Reduce accidents
- Avoid false claims
- Continually grow and improve
It's about building a team of skilled, safety-focused drivers, but it's also about understanding that drivers are people, and our goal is to help you get home safely, protect your record, develop your craft, and build lasting success — on the road and off.
At ATS, we want our drivers to never stop learning and improving.

What Types of Behaviors Does Lytx Track?
The Lytx system tracks several key behaviors, including:
- Speeding: Driving more than 10 mph over the posted speed limit
- Rolling stops: Failing to come to a complete stop
- Under 5 mph is logged as incomplete; over 5 mph is logged as a failure to stop
- Lane departure: Drifting out of a lane without signaling
- Following distance: Maintaining less than six seconds of following distance
- Cell phone use: Yep; even without an inward-facing camera, this can still trigger an event
- Late response: Not reacting to hazards within four seconds of detection
- Crashes or near-collisions: Always reviewed to determine if they were preventable
Note: The system's algorithm filters events by risk level and frequency to avoid overwhelming drivers with alerts. So, for example, if a driver follows too closely for several minutes, they might see only one or two video events instead of dozens.
These are all examples of what's called "triggered events." When triggered events repeat, the system flags them as patterns needing attention. They then become considered "coachable events," and the driver receives feedback from our safety team or their driver manager.
Every coachable event tracked by ATS is assigned a point value. For example, speeding more than 10 mph over the limit, or following less than one second behind another vehicle carries the maximum value of five points. Points are reviewed over a rolling 30-day window and determine the level of coaching support you receive.
Your 60-Day Grace Period
Though we introduce the Lytx system to all new ATS drivers on Day One of orientation, we understand that it's new for many, and it takes some getting used to. So we've designed a 60-day grace period to help new drivers learn how the Lytx system detects and tracks risky events and to develop safe driving habits — without having to worry about points affecting your record.
You may see your point totals go up as you first get used to Lytx, but don't worry: that's normal. 92% of all ATS drivers see their points drop well below the target range after that 60-day mark, which just shows the system works as it should: helping drivers to grow, improve, and stay safe on the road.
