For many drivers — Anderson Trucking Service drivers or otherwise —  the dream of owning a truck is the next big step in their career. The Top Anderson Performers (TAP) program through Truck Power Leasing, a division of Momentum Truck Group, makes that dream a reality for ATS drivers.

This exclusive program provides ATS drivers a direct path to leasing a late-model Freightliner or Western Star truck with flexible terms, affordable payments, and a streamlined approval process.

If you’ve been with ATS for at least a year, you could be on your way to securing a high-quality truck designed to support your success.

Let’s talk about what the program is, who it’s good for, who it isn’t a fit for, and the important numbers to know so you can decide if this is the right option for you to pursue.

What is the TAP Program?

The Top Anderson Performers (TAP) program from Truck Power Leasing is designed to help ATS lease operators transition into business ownership.

There are a few different lease options you can choose from in the TAP program, but they’re all designed to help you become a successful business owner. Some drivers decide to try out a long-term lease and then pay off the truck, while others decide to keep leasing a brand-new truck. The flexibility of the program allows you to take the pathway that works best for you and your business.

The program offers:

  • Lower upfront costs compared to traditional financing
  • Lower monthly costs when compared to conventional financing
  • Tax-deductible lease payments
  • Multiple end-of-lease options:
    • Lease a new truck
    • Buy the truck through a balloon payment
    • Finance the remaining amount and continue payments

This program is exclusively available to ATS drivers due to the partnership with Truck Power Leasing and Momentum Truck Group, providing an opportunity that isn't offered to drivers from other companies.

How the Program Works

In a nutshell, you’ll follow these steps to get into the TAP program:

  • Talk to your driver manager – Your DM must approve your eligibility before you can apply.
  • Apply through Truck Power Leasing – ATS signs off on your qualifications.
  • Select your truck and lease terms – Choose from late-model Freightliner or Western Star trucks.
  • Hit the road with confidence – Truck Power Leasing ensures each truck is fully prepped and road-ready before delivery.
  • Receive customized support – Continue to haul freight with and get paid by ATS. Enjoy additional support from Truck Power Leasing.

Who is Eligible for TAP?

To qualify for the TAP program, you must:

  • Have leased with Competitive Equipment Sales or CES (the sister company of ATS) for at least one year.
  • Have a strong safety record and solid financial management with ATS.
  • Receive approval from your Driver Manager (DM) before beginning the application process.

Lease operators who have been hauling freight with ATS for at least one year and plan to stay with ATS are ideal candidates for the TAP program. If you plan to leave ATS for another carrier, the TAP program isn’t right for you.

If you have no desire to own a truck, this also isn’t the program for you.

Truck Power Leasing works closely with ATS to ensure that only high-quality drivers are approved, making this a trusted and reliable pathway to getting a premium truck.

If you’re interested in the TAP program, reach out to your driver manager. They’ll confirm details about your safety record and finances to determine if you’re a fit for the program. Drivers with a lot of moving violations or accidents on their record may not be a fit for the program. If that’s the case for you, talk to your driver manager about improving your safety score.

When your driver manager signs off on you for the program, they’ll reach out to Truck Power Leasing. They’ll review your leasing credit history through CES to ensure you align with their program requirements.

Benefits of Leasing Through TAP

The ability to get into a nice top-end truck at a low entry point is really attractive for most drivers.

Among the benefits are:

  • Top-tier, feature-rich trucks – Choose from Freightliner and Western Star models with all the bells and whistles. You’ll have the chance to choose the exact truck you want and Truck Power Leasing will make sure it has the proper specs for the type of freight you’re hauling. TAP trucks are equipped with premium features that enhance the driving experience and long-term success of owner-operators.
  • Lower upfront costs – Down payments are significantly less than traditional leases. Payments vary on the truck you choose and market conditions.
  • Factory-installed auxiliary power unit (APU) – An APU provides you comfort, promotes the long-term health of the truck, and reduces fuel costs. Having one in your truck already, without having to pay additional fees for installation, is a weight off your shoulders.
  • Comprehensive warranty (5 years / 500,000 miles) – Enjoy a new truck warranty on all major components so you can keep your truck running smoothly. You’ll also be required to fund a maintenance account to cover repair costs.
  • Personalized support – The small team at Truck Power Leasing takes a hands-on, personalized approach in supporting each driver and their business model. A dedicated leasing representative assists you through every step of the process, including troubleshooting problems on the road. You’ll have one point of contact.
  • Tax support – The Truck Power Leasing team helps handle your paperwork so you’re tax-ready.
  • Extensive service network – Truck Power Leasing and Momentum have a huge service network. You’ll have easy access to Freightliner and Western Star dealerships nationwide for maintenance and repairs.

Who Shouldn’t Lease Through TAP

The TAP program isn’t for everyone. You shouldn’t lease-to-own through the TAP program if:

  • You plan to quit ATS
  • You don’t want to own your truck
  • You don’t enjoy the responsibility that comes with business ownership
  • You thrive as a company driver

Both leasing and owning a truck are incredibly challenging, especially in a rough market. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and it isn’t for every driver.

Owner-operators not only need to select their freight and make sure their business stays profitable, but they also have to manage the business side of things. That means things like keeping up with paperwork, filing business taxes, and sourcing the open market for benefits on top of hauling freight.

If that doesn’t sound pleasant to you, that’s okay! Being a company driver is an equally rewarding career that allows you to focus on the parts of trucking you love most.
