How long does it take to get hired after you put in an application? When can you expect to start driving at a new company?
I’ve been a driver recruiter at Anderson Trucking Service since 2015 and I spend my work days reviewing applications and talking to drivers. One of the most common questions I get is, “How long will it take me to hear from a recruiter?” In this video, I’ll explain how long the application process takes and what you can expect during it.
When drivers put in their applications, they’ll typically hear from a recruiter within 24 hours. Once a recruiter gets in touch with you they’ll run your reports. This includes your Motor Vehicle Records (MVR), your Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP), your Commercial Driver's License Information System (CDLIS) and your Drive-A-Check (DAC) or equivalent report. These reports typically take one or two hours to come back. If you meet the company’s hiring guidelines, they can move forward with work verifications. If all goes well, you’ll be invited to orientation.
While you can’t make your reports or your work verifications come back faster, there are a few things you can do to speed up the application process on your end. For starters, make sure your information is accurate and your work history is thorough. You should also make sure you answer the phone when your recruiter calls. Keep in good contact with them.
The timeline from submitting an application to getting hired and going to orientation can range from a couple hours to 30 days.
