Do you hate the speed governor you have in your truck? You aren’t alone. Many truck drivers like you don’t like that they have to have their truck governed at a certain speed as a company driver or a lease driver.

There are a number of reasons why speed governors, or speed limiters, are placed in your truck. One of the top reasons is safety: The faster you go, the more space you need to stop. The faster you go, the harder your engine has to work. This can decrease your fuel efficiency and cause costly wear and tear on your engine. As a former truck driver with more than two million accident-free miles on my record, I’ll explain how speed governors work and how they can put more money in your pocket.
