The split sleeper berth rule allows truck drivers to split their required 10-hour break into two qualifying rest periods instead of taking all 10 hours at once. The longer break must include at least seven consecutive hours in the sleeper berth, while the shorter break must be at least two consecutive hours off duty, in the sleeper berth or a combination of both.
